Drug Uses
Zoloft is used by adults suffering from major dipressive misorders lasting for six or more weeks. Zoloft help to fight dipressions that lead to loss in appetite, change in sleep, psychomotor agitation and increased faigue.t may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Use Zoloft as directed by your doctor. Take Zoloft after a meal or light snack. Usual dosage is 50–100 mg once a day. Do not stop taking Zoloft without checking with your doctor.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Zoloft, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Zoloft, if you have heart disease including irregular heartbeat or have had a heart attack, a history of depression or suicidal tendencies, you are scheduled to have surgery, consume alcoholic beverages, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Zoloft while you are pregnant. Zoloft is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you use Zoloft, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Zoloft. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Zoloft if you are taking sodium oxybate (GHB). Children and teenagers who take Zoloft may be at increased risk for suicidal thoughts or actions. Adults may also be affected. The risk may be greater in patients who have had suicidal thoughts or actions in the past. The risk may also be greater in patients who have had bipolar (manic–depressive) illness, or if their family members have had it. Watch patients who take Zoloft closely. Contact the doctor at once if new, worsened, or sudden symptoms such as depressed mood, anxious, restless, or irritable behavior, panic attacks, or any unusual change in mood or behavior occur. Contact the doctor right away if any signs of suicidal thoughts or actions occur. Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Zoloft before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery. Zoloft should not be used in children younger than 6 years old. Safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed. Zoloft may sometimes cause a prolonged, painful erection. This could happen even when you are not having sex. If this is not treated right away, it could lead to permanent sexual problems, such as impotence. Contact your doctor right away if this occurs.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are– constipation, decreased appetite, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, general body discomfort, headache, incoordination, light–headedness, muscle aches/pains, nausea, nervousness, sleeplessness, and stomach pain, stuffy nose, swelling of the skin, tiredness, and tremors. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately– allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), blood in urine, chest pain, fainting, hallucinations, irregular heartbeat, light–headedness when rising from a lying or seated position, prolonged, inappropriate, or painful erections, seizures, shortness of breath, stroke, vomiting.
Storage
Store Zoloft at 68 – 77 °F (20 – 25 °C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Zoloft out of the reach of children.
More Information
Zoloft may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. These effects may worsen if Zoloft is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Zoloft with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Zoloft should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
